Successful Second BAW Conference!

Second Brain Awareness Week (BAW) Conference on "Human-Machine Interface from Student-to-Student Interface (HMI from SSI)" was held on March 20th 2015 at the University of Belgrade - School of Electrical Engineering. Cofounder of the BAW seminar in the 2011. and Scientific Committee president of the Conference, prof. Mirjana B. Popović opened the Conference and welcomed students, clinical partners, companies, and researchers.

Scinetific Committee of the BAW 2015 and Invited Speaker Ander Ramos-Murguialday, PhD (from Institute of Medical Psychology and Behavioral Neurobiology, University of Tübingen, Germany and Department of Medical Technologies, TECNALIA, San Sebastian, Spain) announced the Best Poster Awards for poster presentations authored by students. Marija Avramović (from the University of Belgrade - School of Electrical Engineering, author of the paper titled "The electromyographic control of lego robot") and Olivera Ilić (from the University of Belgrade - Department of Psychology, author of the paper titled "It is all about looks") won the First place, and Nikola Ivančević (from University of Belgrade - Clinic of neurology and psychiatry for children and youth, author of the paper titled "Kinematic analysis of handwriting in children with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder") won the Second place.

Pre-Conference Workshop on "Current and future applicationsof non-invasive and invasive BCIs" organized by the g.tec Medical Engineering Austria and University of Belgrade - School of Electrical Engineering was held on 19th March 2015 with scientific presentations and hands-on live BCI (Brain-Computer Interface) demonstrations.

We presented live Human-Machine Interface demonstrations:

  1. Artificial hand controlled by electromyographic signals (Ilija Jovanov, Miloš Mladenović, and Aja Zlatković)
  2. FES (Functional Electrical Stimulation) control by Microsoft Kinect (Matija Štrbac, Jelisaveta Ilić, and Jelena Puzović)
  3. Muscle power and time efficacy competition (Vladimir Kojić, Milica Isaković, Milijana Miladinović, Rastko Vujašković, Aleksandar Gogić, Sergej Kasavica, Bojana Mihajlović, and Andrijana Pušica)
  4. NI Lego robot navigation (Milica Janković, Sergej Kasavica, and Rastko Vujašković)
  5. Electromyographic control of NI Lego robot and polygon navigation (Marija Avramović, and Milijana Miladinović)

Special acknowledgement for their personal effort and enthusiastic work during BAW 2015 went to Milica Isaković, Milijana Miladinović, Sergej Kasavica, and Jelisaveta Ilić. For the 5th year in a row, our team, our students and guests had a great time! Picture Gallery can be found here.

Within the demonstration titled: "The brain waves during music listening" held on  March 21st 2015 as part of the Brain Awareness Week 2015 program, Dr. Nebojsa Maleševi and Dr. Andrej Savić, researchers at the University in Belgrade - School of Electrical Engineering, and company Tecnalia Serbia Ltd, presented the theoretical and practical basis of electrophysiological signal measurements, brain-computer interface technology, and hardware/ software for measuring electroencephalographic (EEG) signals at the Serbian Academy of Sciences and Arts in organization of Student Section for Neuroscience.
